In October, Lodz University of Technology (TUL) hosted students from the University of Aveiro (Portugal) and Kaunas University of Technology (Lithuania), who came to Lodz to join TUL students in tackling a Challenge-Based Learning (CBL) task titled Sustainable Transitions & Reliable Engineering for Automated Manufacturing (STREAM).
The STREAM challenge was part of the international initiative ECIU University, which promotes innovative learning methods based on collaboration, interdisciplinarity, and solving real-world social and technological problems.
The visit was an integral part of a minor pathway, consisting of two micro-modules and the challenge itself, developed under the JUMP project. This structure allows participants to deepen theoretical knowledge, develop practical skills, and gain experience working in international teams on real-life issues.
A highlight of the program was a visit to Sabert, a company specialising in food packaging solutions for the takeaway and tableware markets, offering innovative and sustainable products tailored to modern consumer needs. Students explored cutting-edge packaging production technologies and saw how sustainability and automation principles are applied in practice. The meeting with company representatives provided valuable industry insight and enriched the STREAM challenge experience.
Following their stay in Lodz, the teams continue working online to develop their projects, with final presentations scheduled for November. These will showcase the outcomes of their collaborative efforts and mark the conclusion of the minor pathway.
The initiative fostered practical learning and deepened ties between partner universities across Europe.
