More than movement, the European Universities Walking Challenge became a shared community experience connecting students and staff from universities across Europe through everyday physical activity and friendly competition. Altogether, nearly 2,000 participants from European universities took part in the challenge, collecting an impressive 349,515,206 steps during the month.
The challenge was organised through the FitSphere app and combined friendly competition with a shared goal of staying active. Universities competed based on the average number of steps per participant, making the rankings fair regardless of institution size.
The Lodz University of Technology community achieved a strong result in this year’s edition:
- 144 participants joined the challenge,
- together collecting 2,907,051 steps,
- with an average of 20,189 steps per participant,
- and 6,729 average steps per day.
Among the ECIU universities taking part in the challenge, Lodz University of Technology had by far the largest participating community, with 144 participants — significantly more than other ECIU partners involved in the initiative.
The overall winner in the “Most Active University” category was Riga Technical University (Latvia), while Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (Slovakia) had the highest number of participants. The title of most active individual walker went to Erdem D. from Riga Technical University.
Thank you to everyone from the TUL community who took part and represented the university throughout the challenge. Every step counted!
