The European Universities Walking Challenge is a month-long movement initiative taking place from 1–30 April 2026, bringing together students and staff from universities across Europe in a shared, friendly competition that promotes health, connection, and community spirit. Participants will track their steps using the FitSphere app, developed by an Estonian company.

The main idea is that each ECIU university participates as one local community, with students and staff joining forces to compete together against other universities across Europe. Rankings are based on the average number of steps per participant, ensuring fair competition between institutions of all sizes.

One prize per category:

  • University with the highest average step count (students/academic-staff count divided by step-count in total)
  • University with the highest participation (how many students per university take part)

  • Student or staff member with the highest number of steps (most active individual)

  • One student selected by lottery (randomly selected student from the lottery wheel)

  • One university selected by lottery (randomly selected university from the lottery wheel)

The prize pool estimate at the moment is around 3500€ to 4000€ and is growing with every new participant.
